Izia Higelin's first album |
This young lady is French and sings in English. She is the daughter of one my favorite French songwriters, Jacques Higelin.
She once defined herself during an interview as being spontaneous, free, energetic, kind of rebel and sometimes ... rough. And that is exactly the way her songs sound!
The first time I saw and heard her was on TV. And, yes, she obviously felt comfortable on stage, singing with immense energy and vocal generosity.
Energy and generosity are keywords to describe her first album, titled IZIA. It is full of electricity, classic rock in style, sometimes close to punk and the singing is always coming from the guts! The thing actually sounds so rock, that it was very scarcely broadcasted in France, being considered as "too rock".
I really invite to listen to her voice: the lady is only 21 and she already compares with Janis Joplin or Bette midler.
